Hi Everyone

The calendar has just turned over for spring and we are looking forward to the days and the benefits that it will bring to us all. As the green buds grow on the trees, there are things growing in the community we call the Tinker School.

Open Day

Sunday 17th September 2017
1.00-4.00pm

We want to showcase our school, have you meet the great tinker team and see the kinds of projects that students can be involved with. You can come and talk about our philosophy and how this shapes the way we work alongside the students who attend. Share widely and we look forward to seeing you there.

Twilight Tinkering Classes

We are going to be opening the Tinker School in the evenings over the Spring and Summer to give adults the chance to tinker as well. We will be offering woodcraft, cabinetmaking, blacksmithing, repurposing and restoration and leather craft. If any of these peak an interest in your tinkering soul, then come along to the Open Day and talk with us as to how these classes may work. This is an exciting opportunity we are keen to action.

Tinker School Venue

We have been tinkering at our venue to improve the range of activities we can offer. We are  including software and hardware that can provide children opportunity to do graphic design, filmmaking, studio recording equipment, 3D design and printing, robotics, online games development and much much more. We have a good materials workshop facility for designing, prototyping of ideas, painting and finishing. It has been a great place for the after school students students to explore, tinker and discover.

We run the Tinker School during term time from 4.00-6.00 daily. Intermediate and secondary students can be involved in projects of their own design. Check out the Tinker School facebook page for more information or check out our website page here.

Tinker School Catchment

The Tinker School service is placed to meet the childcare needs of the NEV community and surrounding suburbs, including Pine Hill, Opoho, Liberton, Ravensbourne and West Harbour as well as parents who may be studying at the Otago University. Spaces are available if you are keen to be a part of the Tinker School Experience at NEV.

Community Engagement

The Tinker School have been involved in many community activities in the NEV. This includes providing football coaching for the players at NJAFC. We support the Circulation Trust for circo-arts training and performance through the Festival of Tricks.

The Tinker School is looking to establish a youth development programme in the Valley to support youth 14-21 years of age. It will be modelled on our Kidz Inc philosophy but upgraded for older students with an enterprise focus. This is an exciting development. By using the Tinker School you are supporting these locally grown initiatives.

Like Us on Facebook

We have a page set up that we encourage parents to like. There are some posts that ask for you to feedback on the type of programme your child/ren would like to be involved in. We also post articles that are relevant to the focus we have in community development through working with children and families in the community. You can find the Tinker School Facebook page here.

Enrolment Steps

If you are looking to enrol your child/ren into our holiday programme please contact us and provide the name/s of your children, their age and the school they attend and the dates that they will be attending.

Affordable Childcare

The Tinker School ensure that all children can have access to our experience. This spring, parents can have full day access to the programme for half day price. That is a $60.00 day programme for only $40.00+GST.

Invoicing & Payment Plans

All parents are invoiced at the end of the programme. If you are new to the programme, we ask for a deposit up front before the commencement of the programme.

If you are looking to reduce the costs and will be seeking long term use of our holiday programme, we have payment plans that take the financial pressure off families by spreading the cost over a 12 month period. For more information regarding this service follow the link here.

We receive no funding and operate entirely on Parent Fees.

Therefore, we ask that parents that have outstanding accounts to finalise them by the end of the school term. The cash flow of our business is directly tagged to pay our great staff. To ensure that our great service continues your prompt settlement of accounts is vital.
