Hi Everyone,

With such fine weather over the last few days, our summer seems to be arriving just as the last week of summer closes in. What ever lays ahead of us in the weeks and months to come, those sunny days keep moving us forward.

Christmas & New Year Wrap Up

School has been back for the better part of three weeks and I trust we all have some routines in place again. Kidz Inc covered a lot of ground over the Christmas New Year period, with a wide range of activities across all venues made it memorable. Check out the photo gallery, a window into what they did.

Staff commented on how well the children worked with each other. They had a supportive and understanding manner, creating their own activities as well as joining in on the structured activities prepared by staff. We will post more media over the coming weeks as they come to hand.

Kidz Inc Lost Property Shop

To effectively manage the storage of artefacts, clothing and other belongings, in the true spirit of enterprise, a concept store will be developed, owned and operated by the children of Kidz Inc. We see many benefits for this project, and for yourselves for keeping track of clothing and personal possessions. Keep an eye on this development.

Innovation in Education

Focus: Sustainability Guided Principles
Principles are unchanging values that govern the natural lore of things. Principles guided by sustainability are shaped by concepts of balance, harmony, dynamics & equilibrium. Sustainability is about systems, which a technology based learning programme is designed to teach (see News 17Dec09: Technology Immersion).

More importantly about systems, is that they are closed looped systems, they create no waste. They are efficient. Waste is treated like a resource. In fact the whole system is resource-based. In such a sustainability guided learning environment, children are encouraged to ask “Do we have the resources to do this?”. Then it becomes a technological activity managing those resources towards an appropriate and sustainable solution.

Through the Market Carnival, Kiva and activities we design, the children are learning by doing, and we ourselves as an organisation are exploring new ways of doing our work. So we work smarter, not harder. Its about being efficient, dynamic, having balance and harmony across all aspects of your life. It is your lifestyle. We may not get it right all the time, but it is a journey, some days are better than others. We keep moving forward because of the people who we share the journey with, and that is the topic for the next newsletter.

The Last Laugh

Seeing Eye Dog
A blind man, with a seeing eye dog at his side, walks into his local grocery store. He walks to the middle of the store, picks up the dog by the tail, and starts swinging the dog around in circles over his head.

The store manager, who up until this point thought he had seen it all, thinks this is quite strange. So he decides to find out what's going on.The store manager approaches the blind man swinging the dog and asks, "Pardon me. May I help you with something?"
The blind man replies, "No thanks. I'm just looking around."

It is the sunny day of the mind that keeps us moving forward when things are bleak. Things change, they never stay the same. If we are mindful of this then we are more resilient to what lies ahead.

See you next newsletter.

Regards

Andrew & the Kidz Inc Team
