Looking Ahead
Hi Everyone,
I trust that the transition from school holidays to school days went smoothly for everyone, and the children really do not mind being back. I want to thank all parents for supporting our holiday programme, feedback from children, parents and staff is positively uplifting. I really believe the words of Barack Obama ring true, knowing our efforts have left the world a little better.Holiday Wrap Up
Kidz Inc students were involved in a range of games and activities over two weeks. Our daily routines included peer support games, technology based activities including kite making & an amazing caterpillar kite!, bubblewands, cardmaking, friendship survival kits, muffins, brownies, and a performance organised by the students themselves. There was a movie day each week, ice skating, laser skirmish and other tactical game-play sports including circo-arts and T ball.See more of their activities in gallery...
Macandrew Bay Holiday Programme
We welcomed the Macandrew Bay and Otago Peninsula community to the Kidz Inc experience. Operating out of the Orphans & Entertainers Club, the community got on board and supported the programme. All reports from children was that they thoroughly enjoyed it, and all parents spoken to were pleased with the professionalism in caring for their children. We will be continuing this service over the Christmas New Year holidays in 2009/10.Choice Theory
Focus on the Five Needs: EMPOWERMENTChoice theory says that all types of behaviour (good and poor) are learned to meet our basic needs. The focus this week is to look at the basic need of Empowerment. This need requires achievement, accomplishments and success in order to be fulfilled. It is the need that builds capability. This also includes taking on more responsibility which in turn builds our character. All people need to feel a sense of power, however the focus is to have power over yourself, rather than over other people. The power to create choices and make decisions, take risks, make mistakes, achieve goals and meet with success builds capability, and the character of the person grows to be more resilient and courageous. Children need to know that they are growing, getting stronger and more powerful each day. Being involved in new experiences and structured activities that challenge provides the children with empowerment opportunities. With this sense of know how and can do they will be confident in meeting the challenges that lay ahead.

The Kidz Inc Kiva Project
Students who were involved in many of the activities at Kidz Inc projects presented them at the market stall to support the international agency Kiva. Children packaged, labelled and costed the projects for sale to parents and the open public. Unfortunately due to weather, the markets at the Octagon were not operating. However their efforts were well rewarded with the amount raised being $44.20. This will be loaned to an individual in the Kiva network to assist their developing business. For more info on Kidz Inc support of Kiva can be found here...
